    How to measure current

What is the easiest way to measure current drawn by an amp? I am just curious how much it getting...? Where to connect the ampmeter? CC

Have Two Amps - Which to Use

Yes, it's a DIY...I am just tapping wires from an existing amp for my sub amp; I managed to find the wiring diagram and info on amp location, so it should be fine and fairly easy. The car has an OEM 10 channel amp (I think) for the main cabin and a 2 channel amp for some little subs mounted to...

Have Two Amps - Which to Use

It is a 2002 BMW coupe....I keep hearing "it is sealed so you will need a fair amount of power to hear it up front"...don't know what "fair amount" means....

Have Two Amps - Which to Use

I only plan to use one of the amps; my question was which amp is better to run subs, and in what config: e.g., one big sub (and what size/load) with the 1400 or two smaller ones (what size/load) with the 3400 in bridged mode. In terms of highs/mids I am good. Yeah, I know these are really...

Have Two Amps - Which to Use

I came across some really cheap JLAudio amps (A-series) at a store going out of business. I bought 2, figured I would decide what to do with them later (they were like 75% off or something) The first one is single channel A1400 (class D) with specs: 320 W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm 500 W RMS x 1 @ 2...

JLAudio Amp and Sub Speaker Recommendations

Hello, I picked up a couple of JL Audio amplifiers really cheap (Tweeter store was selling them at like 70% off, I hear they are going bankrupt, keep an eye out, they carry slash series too......). The amps I got are from the A series.... - A1400 Monoblock - A4300 4 channel I will only use...

    Controllable Amplifier?

Hello, I recently installed a 2 channel amp and 2 8" subs in my vehicle. It sounds good (I don't need a ton of bump and this gets pretty loud for me), but I would really like to be able to control the bass a bit better from the driver's seat. I can get it to sound good for any given piece of...

    Noise Problem

Thanks- I'll try grounding the RCAs first... My head unit has two sets of pre-outs; I send set 1 to the 4 channel amp (where I split it to get 4 channels) and set 2 to the 2 channel amp. Do I need to ground only one of the channels of the 4 on my 4 channel amp, or all 4, or what? Thanks for...

    Noise Problem

Need help to solve a noise problem. The symptoms are: - The noise is like a whine that seems to be linked with pressing the accelerator in my car. It starts off kinda low pitch when the car is idle, it gets to be higher pitch the more I give it gas while driving. - The noise is there even...

    BMW Install

Hey, thanks for the replies. I checked out the Clean Sweep unit. I think I must be seeing it as a very simple thing (I'm pretty much a beginner at car audio)- it looks like a speaker to line converter to me, but with some kind of fancy equilization cability? I mean, what do I get from this...

RCA Cable Length = big power drops??

The crossover for the HPF goes up to 750 Hz; that is where I have it now for both channels 1+2, and channels 3+4. I have gains maxed out as well for both channels 1+2 and 3+4. I figured I'd need to lower the gain on the fronts, since they are only 4" (maybe handle 25W RMS) and the amp is...

RCA Cable Length = big power drops??

How bit a deal is the length of the RCA cables? I remember reading that you loose signal strength more if the cables are longer, how much are we talking about? I just wired a 4 channel 75 Watt RMS channel to fronts and rears in my car. Although they sound good, it doesn't seem to be much...

No Audio - can anyone help now?

Well, I got everything working by the time the sun went down. It turned out to be my speakers- I didn't check them at first, they seemed like they'd be the last thing (after amp, HU, wiring) to go bad- would have saved me a lot of work. And then, all four of them in my cabin went out around...

No Audio - can anyone help now?

As far as how they are wired- the front channels go to a set of components; I am not sure what is the load, I'd guess 4 ohms (can I check it easily with an ohmmeter?). The rear channels connect to the speakers I mentioned, so it is 4 ohms there. It is a pretty standard config, I'd guess. Chris

No Audio - can anyone help now?

More debugging...I decided to just connect a 6 ohm speaker from an old Aiwa component system I have in my garage. That worked. So it is my speakers.... BUT- what I don't understand is why all four of them would go out at the same time, after 13 years of use? That is why I didn't check them...
