I am planning on buying a 15" adiobahn sub which is at 1 ohm

I am having trouble with which ohm setup to get with my system. Can someone clarify if a low number of ohms is better than high or what? Can someone explain to me what exactly that they do? I am a little fuzzy on what they really do
