I have sold many of these amps. I have had one dts1000 that ended the exact same way yours did. It turns out the customer had the amp in a 1/2 ohm and both woofers cooked to the point of being locked up. For cheap amps they are pretty tough.

I would go for the RE DTS amps. We sell them and for the money they are great. If they cost twice as much they would still be awesome. We have sold ton of them and I can believe an amp that cost so little hits so hard. They also have built in fans which is also a plus. For the type R's I...

Look at treo rsx or re full range. Both fit your budget and handle power well. Great sound

We sold them. They are pretty clean and cheap. I would say its more like 200 watts for 50 watts per channel than the 400 they claim. The last ones we had only had 25 amp fuses in them. If you dont need a ton of power and you chan get the amp for under 100 dollars I say go for it.
