recommend a unit with good iPod control

SUCCESS! Got the AVX820 to work by...updating the firmware on my ipod. I gave JVC tech support a call, and their suggestion worked! The 820 is very smooth...takes it a couple of seconds to initially read the ipod when you change to the USB source, but only a second or 2 to display track...

    Kenwood DNX514 vs Pioneer AVIC-x910BT

Pros & Cons of each? I know nothing about navigation systems....Garmin/Navteq vs Tele-Atlas? Ah, apparently the Pioneer has traffic & bluetooth that the Kenwood adds for another ~$100/each.

strike 2 to JVC; they won't have an opportunity for a 3rd strike. I bought their JVC AVX 820, and it did not recognize my 5th (or 5.5) gen ipod at all, even after buying the KSU30 cable. The ipod would get powered, but that was it. I put the ipod in disk mode, and then the HU would read...

thought I posted this a few weeks ago...how important is security?

huh? I'm approaching this discussion not from the "give me advice" stance, but more from the underlying purpose of security features in aftermarket stereos. For example: how does a security code offer any kind of deterrent? I'd much rather remove the faceplate, and not give a would-be crook a...

Well, I've got no alarm, and generally not concerned w/ where I park. How about peace of mind?

thought I posted this a few weeks ago...how important is security?

Sorry if this is an old topic...I could have swore I posted it before, but can't find it. I've spent a while looking a wide range of decks, and I've noticed that, aside from a couple nav units, and JVC, once you go double-din, you pretty much lose the ability to remove the face plate. This, to...

    Kenwood announces new Excelon receivers

good to know; I've got the same ipod as him, and I was very concerned about this as well...FOURTY-SIX seconds on the video!! that's insane. I'm pretty sure a local shop had it on their wall, and they have ipod cables connected, so I might as well go play with it and see how it works....it could...

you're the 2nd person on here now to say it works fine. unfortunately though, he's got the same ipod as me... Granted on the video, he is searching song titles, which would be a much longer list than albums or artists, but 46 seconds is insane! I'll just have to make sure I can return it if I...

recommend a unit with good iPod control

In addition to the clunky album/artist/genre navigation, the JVC unit I had would take 10-15 seconds to load each track's information, and would not let you skip to the next track or respond to most user commands until it was done loading; ridiculous. Thanks for the recommendations! My only...
