    box design help

dividing a ported box can be a risk. if both chambers arent exact, you will get different internal volume, which also changes port tuning. it just has to be done tight and accurate is all. you could double port a single chamber box also, for aesthetics reasons. i have never worked with that...

    one sealed and one ported?

there are a limited amount of subs that are optimal in 4th order bandpass setups. for a musical box, subs that are designed to be sealed work well in 4th order bandpass, and even some of those subs require large chambers to be musical. if the box is designed around a sub that fits the...

    Alpine SWS-12D2 Enclosure

2.5 might be a little big. `1.5 seems little small. i did a few boxes for the type S a few years ago. dropped one in a 2 cube box @ 35hz that i had actually built for a type R. it did well playing the test songs, which were heavy metal and rap songs. the other one i did, i built specifically for...

    one sealed and one ported?

you get the sound quality aspect of having good control of the sub, via a sealed section, with the added spl that a ported enclosure can yield. your margin for error is much smaller, and not just any sub does well in a 4th order. a subwoofer that is designed to be sealed works best in 4th order...

Question on Amp and Sub compatability

you need either a dual 2 ohm sub, or a single 4 ohm sub.

    one sealed and one ported?

a properly built 4th order bandpass enclosure, with a sub that can perform well in that application, is exactly getting the benefits of a sealed and ported enclosure. Dmac is right. the room for error is what messes up the works when doing bandpass. calculate a tad off, build a tad off, or use a...

    New Car Audio Setup Recommendation

best sounding system on a budget would be a head unit, 2 channel amp and 2 good speakers up front. adding a small sub will help alot to add some depth to your music. even a 6.5 or 8 inch sub on low power would work for you from the sounds of it. a little sound deadening behind your door speakers...

    New member, new build questions

your first goal should be a good box. with limited power, you might consider a sub that is designed to be ported, and get a well designed box. a ****** sub will sound good in a nice box. an expensive sub will sound ****** in a poor box. if you build your own without experience, you should start...

    Alpine Type R box

i had a single type R ported that metered at 141 db playing music. won a bassrace with that sub. not many subs in that price range that are better than a type R. 2.2 @ 35 hz is what i had mine in.

    help with 12" sub setup

If you are wired at 4 ohms, you have a dual 2 ohm sub wired in series to get 4 ohms. you can't possibly wire it to get 2 ohms. You can only do series wiring to get 4 ohms, or parallel wired will give you 1ohm. You wired your subs at 1 ohm it sounds like, causing the amp to protect. You need a...

Which subs would work better for rock/metal music, Sundown SA12 or Alpine SWX-1243D

Didn't read entire thread, but it is about box, as said. I listen to metal, and was happy with my type r 12 ported, my old fosgate 15 sealed, and some jl w3 8's. Had a sealed focal that rocked metal beautifully. The diamond 10 I have now ported is flat out impressive in a small box. You'll be...

    3 12" Diamond Audio D3 vs 2 12" Kicker L7

I have a d6 10 ported and its **** loud. Diamond does well ported. 2 of your 12's ported will be louder than the 3 sealed. I listen to metal mostly. Motor strength is good, no motor noise at all from ports. Handles double bass very well.

Looking for a budget 12. small space. 600 rms.

You will be limited with choices. 1.2 is pretty small for a 12. Not that some subs can't work in that small space, but at that price, you can't afford a sub that is optimal in 1.2. You might be better off sealing it up or making it for a 10. Alot of 10 inch subs will fit perfect in that.

    Box Ideas

Sealed box designed subs do well in a 4th order, provided that the design and build are dead on balls accurate.
