I dont wanna soud stupid...but what exactly is the "gain setting" ive heard of it, but never understood it. What does it actaully do, and what should I have it set at?

I just got an alpine swr-1242d. THe RMS is 500watts, and the max is 1500watts. I have a kenwood KAC-8152D amp, that pushes 550watts at 2ohm. Would that damage the speakers during the break in period? How long do I need to wait untill i can really crank up the volume?

My car speakers are all 2ohm, and im looking to add a subwoofer. Does the subwoofer have to be 2ohm too, or can it be 4ohm? When hooking up the amp, does it have to be set to 2ohm also? Im so confused about all this electrical stuff, and dont want to blow the subs. Im thinking about the...
