The amp is turned down to handle that sub, it's not maxed.

But would the box being small have anything to do with making the coils burn and blow the sub? I have closed the port and it still made a terrible smell.

Sorry to reply so late, I just got in from work. I meant it hits high notes, not as thunderous bass and it will not heat up a single bit. but the lows on volume where you can just feel the bass makes it heat up and smell crazy. Gain is set to match my speakers I had a professional tune it for...

This memphis sub is brand new actually. and I have blown subs the same way on my old sony amp as well as my old head units. So the RCA cables are the only possible conclusion next to the box?

I'm using a memphis audio ATM, I have been told they are actually very good.
