If I hated my 9885, why am I considering another Alpine?

You may very well be right, but with NO tuning whatsoever, the Pioneer and the Eclipse sounded good. If the Alpine sounds great with tuning (I'm sure it does, TONS of people swear by Alpine), but sounds like crap out of the box...that just BS. I'm going from a stock deck putting out maybe 10...

If I hated my 9885, why am I considering another Alpine?

I just got back from Best Buy. They of course did not have it hooked up to an ipod, or anything, so I couldn't really demo it. The sh*tty M.I.X is still there, but I don't know if it works the same as it did on the 9835. If there were a way to just let the ipod do the shuffling, it would be...

Well, shows what I know. I had the MediaXpander set to off all the time - even at 1 it was like a 'loud' button on crack. Has the circuitry changed from the 9835 to the ida-x001? Or is it still going to have a similar sound? EDIT: Oh, looking at your avatar, I had a CD7000 that I loved, but...

If I hated my 9885, why am I considering another Alpine?

****, I'm never going to make up my mind. The bass/treble on the Alpine sounds kinda crappy. I'm not looking for the ultimate in tweak-ability, but if I don't like the sound that kind of limits my options in fixing it. As far as trying it out goes, that would be hard without an ipod yet...

Can you go into more detail on the ipod interface? Does the random/shuffle feature work well? IE can I listen to random music, quickly skipping the tracks I don't want to listen to, and if I land on a band I like, easily get out of random and listen to more tracks in that album folder?

If I hated my 9885, why am I considering another Alpine?

Hahah, nice. I had the 9835 in my S2000 connected to 2 Boston Acoustics 6.5" speakers, and I hated the sound. We swapped in my friends Pioneer (the all blue display MP series), and it sounded great. I bought the Eclipse, and it sounded great. I sold the Alpine to a friend, who put it in his...

I'm not sure what your wife would do with a stock Ford deck, but I'll keep it in mind

The Alpine is $400 retail, and about $320 online. They can be found cheaper than that if you really look. The Sony is $700 at Circuit City (online only), and about $620 online. The Kenwood is $650 at Crutchfield, and about $425 online. PS I'm an idiot, I had a CDA-9835, NOT a 9885.

If I hated my 9885, why am I considering another Alpine?

EDIT: Okay guys, I'm an idiot. I had a CDA-9835, not the 9885. It was their first unit with Bio Lite. And I really did hate my 9885. The display was gorgeous, the buttons nice, but the sound was just terrible to my ears. Very harsh, brash with a emphasis on treble I could never dial out...

    Dash kits

It might be too big, but this kit looks like it has the opening, and the pocket is optional. http://www.metraonline.com/downloads/pdf/TurboKits/INST99-3106.pdf

    Pioneer 880PRS > 780MP?

Ha, I'm just getting into all that myself, but I think all this is right... Active is basically using processing, on the head unit in this case, as the crossover for all your speakers. So no physical crossover in the door or trunk that came with your comps, and no crossover set on the amp...

    Pioneer 880PRS > 780MP?

The 980 has auto EQ and auto T/A, where the 780 does not, for what it's worth. If you don't care about auto EQ, auto T/A, separate L/R EQ, and going active, then go with which one you like better. They're about the same price.

For all of those people thinking of getting the 880PRS

Is that shipped? You can find them for around $290 or $300 shipped from a decent seller on the bay. Is the install gear just a harness, or a dash kit too?

    CD7000 or DEH-p880prs

Sorry, that 11 versus 16 band was my fault for just glancing at the specs too fast. 63hz seems kinda crappy because everyone else offers lower crossover points, but I have my Kenwood set to 60hz now, and sometimes bump it up to 80hz. As long as you can play with the slope, it's not really that...

    CD7000 or DEH-p880prs

The 980 has that feature, and it's passive, so I would assume yes. But I'm sure an 880 owner can chime in...
