i tried moving my ground and that seems to have done the trick. i moved it once and it was a lot better, but still you could hear the subs faintly making noise, then i tried another ground and really got it good and tight and it seems to be working out so far. thanks for all the help guys, Rob

yeah it could be the rcas, i had this happen probably a few months ago, not as bad as now but just occasionally and i replaced the rcas and it fixed it for a while and then started up again so either the rcas i replaced it with were really awful or it was something else that was causing it...
