Current events discussion

I'm not claiming we have some sort of moral high ground. What we do have is a hegemony and I think it's clearly in our best interest to maintain our hegemony. The USD is propped by more far more the petro dollar.
Not really...the days of the "hegemony" are fading fast...if you really wanna know why Ukraine matters to us so much...just looks at brics moving the needle farther and farther from petro dollar...and who is a brics nation? That's the only reason we're involved. It's no different than Gaddafi (not that he didn't desrve it) because he was trying to organize a gold back currency...that's why he died not the atrocities he committed. Same he here it has zero to do with nato, Ukraine, or any other one sided deal we're stuck in...it's because Russia is (as part of brics) pushing for the petro yuan...

IMHO, it's as foolish to deny that it has nothing to with the hegemony & Nato as would be to deny that this is also about the Petro Dollar/Brics.

It seems like people are suggesting we simply abandon all allies, and subsequently stop moving money their way in order to help them, especially in a situation like we now see.

So, let North Korea assume South Korea. Let Russia assume Ukraine. Let China annex Taiwan.
Basically, let Communism take over, because Communism cannot succeed if capitalism exists.

Seems like a bad deal, but maybe I'm missing something about Communism being good?

Your comparisons unlike Ukraine have actual strategic value as allies for one...and for two they're not well known for a wastefully corrupt government...

But hey Ukraine did kill the investigation into belisma for biden...once he threatened to withhold aid...

I think Americans are upset that we pour so much of our money into other countries instead of into our country first. Outgoing money with no appreciable return. Top that off with warmonger Democrats always wanting to start shit with other countries because there is no better money maker than war by scaring up prices and yes, Americans get pissed. We need to build this country back up from the inside before we waste our resources on other countries who don't return the favor. Make America a country nobody wants to screw with again then we can help other countries if they deserve it.

The scariest might be NK taking over SK. NK with actual industrial capability could be really dangerous. The other vital question is who takes the role of the hegemon - China? Russia? Do we return to no hegemon, which lead to ww1 & ww2?

The extreme oversimplification of how we should "just do this" or "just do that" and all problems will be solved, and the possibility that people believe it's simply that easy, is quite honestly scary.

It's like playing "got your nose" with a child, and they actually believe you are doing magic.

"Take care of our people first", right alongside the cries of "Stop welfare; we shouldn't have to pay to take care of our people" (which we are already doing).

"Biden is an ******* for standing up to Russia" following g rather quickly after "Trump is our savior for standing up to Russia".

"Praise Trump for lowering gas o

Thinking it is hard to put America first is just an excuse to continue to support morons who have their own interest in mind and not the American people. Biden IS an ******* for antagonizing Putin. It is Ukraine's war with Russia, not America's.

Tell us how to "put America first". Name things not already being done.

explain the dichotomy of Trump being a hero when he antagonizes North Korea, but Biden is an ******* for antagonizing Russia.
It was South Korea's potential war with North Korea, not America's.
So again, explain how Trump is a hero for doing what he did.

I want you to look at this Rob and tell me why the rest of Europe isn't as deep as we are in giving these handouts to Ukraine.

Ukraine receives the greatest support for weapons and equipment also from the United States. In the period from January 24, 2022 to August 31, 2024, weapons and funds for military purposes amounting to around $62 billion flowed from the country.
