Worth setting up a 16V system for a single SAZ-1500D?

Considering getting a single D1600 to replace the batt under the hood with a ~200A mechman alt (adjustable to 16V) Then doing 0gauge runs to the trunk. I know il need a voltage step down unit for the cars stock electrical. But does this sound like an okay plan or a waste of money. It would open up my upgrade paths, and I had already planned to buy an AGM battery for the amp, the difference would be getting a 12V AGM and putting it in the trunk (wiring it to the batt under the hood) and using a stock alt. or doing what I mentioned and going 16V with 1 battery.

Not worth it IMO for the little power you are running. You're better off just getting a bigger amp and running it at 12 to 14v. I wouldn't go through the trouble for 16v unless you are running high power and competing.

way too many problems when you start d1cking around with voltage, gets expensive. big alt + big batt = big smile
This actually brings something up, a single 1500D couldn't possibly justify an alternator upgrade if I will be running 12V with a second battery (D3400) right? But if it does, why not go 16 :|

From what I can find a 91 Lesabre has a 100 or 140 amp alternator
I use a 140 amp alternator with 1500w on a stock electrical and I don't have problems..

You should be just fine with only the big 3, if not add a 2nd battery. No need to upgrade alternator for 1500w

I would stay 12v, add a proper alternator, biggest XS Power battery you can under the hood and see what happens. With only a 1500w amp you may not need a second battery with the proper alternator.

Going 16v is not worth the time at this point in my opinion.

Anything worth getting is always worth it more at a steep discount. Not familiar with that unit, but the brand is great.
