Trying to design my own speaker.

So, I am still wanting to give this project a go, but since the price of the TB woofer went to ~$85 from ~$50, and since it seems to not be the best choice, I started doing a little more research. I came across the SEAS Prestige CA18RNX which seems to be a pretty competent little driver. I am wondering if this will work better in the design than the TB, and it is also slightly cheaper. Otherwise I may step up in price to either of these drivers, the Creative Sound Solutions CSS SDX7 Subduction 6.5" woofer with patented XBL^2 motor or the Exodus EX-6.5 Midwoofer, with them both looking to be Adire Extremis clones. Any additional help is appreciated.

Thought about the Mpyre 65m's that are lingering around now?

I just bought some, and though I haven't listened to them yet they are Extremis clones as well... they are 4ohm though.

So are all the drivers I have listed, I think. I need a 4 ohm mid to match the 4 ohm tweeter.

I have heard good things about the AA Polys. How much would you want for them?
And why the hell is he joetama if his name is Aaron, lol.
Make sure you put them in a baby box ported... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Come back joetama, I want your help!!!
So, what do you want my help with?

I wouldn't personally use the XT25 or that woofer (having bad flashbacks to the XXX Mid-woofer). Some people bloody love the XT25, NG is one of them but personally it doesn't fit my tastes. But, always build a system around your tweeter. Woofers are a dime a dozen and personally the RS-180 from Dayton is a design favorite of mine because it is rather versatile and pretty forgiving with a simple crossover.

Depending on the drives I don't design much out of 2nd order with an L-Pad. (I prefer first order with a hybrid second order, but I rarely get that lucky) A decent driver should be usable without a zoble network (blastfamy i know, but I don't really care. Personally I've tried my X-Over designs with and without and mostly I prefer without, plus I don't measure FR of my designs except for a few basic point. My ear will be listening 99.999% of the time so I don't really care what a graph says. Plus I don't have an anechoic chamber so I really can't measure FR accuratly anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif)

Anyway, in all seriousness if you want to go XT-25 I know of a few decent mids you could go with, but you'll probably have to pad the **** out of the tweeter since those **** RDR are so sensitive.

I know this post wasn't really much help at all, but I'm not really apt to design something for someone else unless they are a close friend of mine. I also end up keeping most of my desings a bit of a secret because I put lots of time and effort into the design process & I'm a dick and don't want others to enjoy my work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Darn. Well, I guess I can respect your position on this. I was hoping for help with a crossover, since I do not know much about designing a crossover, but I will try and learn. As of now this project would be delayed untill next summer anyway, so it isn't a huge deal.

If you have specific questions I can help...

Also, it helps when you pick drivers. Kind of hard to design a crossover for drives that don't exist yet.

What are you looking to spend on drives just out of curiosity...

Well, my goal is to use the XT25 because I really want to try that tweeter. As for the mid, I could go for anything as long as it will work with the tweeter. I am only suggesting the ones I have since they seem to be interesting and/or cool choices. The Dayton RS180 is definitely on the list, I just haven't mentioned it. As you have said and I have seen, the XT25 is extremely sensitive so I will probably have to pad it. From there on however I am a total newbie to designing speakers. What would you recommend I read or do to learn about crossovers so I can get a start on them? Anyway, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

You should defiantly talk to NG about the Poly's and the Daytons. We recently tried both out in his loudspeakers. Both have benefits and drawbacks, but that is true with any loudspeaker design.
