If you have a bridged 2 channel amplifier, you want to run a 2 channel RCA cable to your sub amp UNLESS it only has only one RCA input (home audio is like that, most car amps are not though)

Probably 95% of the amps out there take signal from both L/R inputs when bridged. So by using one input you may not get full signal. As for using a Y adapter at the amp, if your HU does not have a mono sub RCA output, you'll only get half signal from the HU. Some HU's have a sub output that can be changed from Mono/Stereo along with crossover etc...
