You do need a center; the center and subwoofer are the two most important speakers in your home theatre. They aren't optional.

You do not NEED a center channel, period. I get along just fine using the phantom center option on the HK receiver. My speakers are SO close together width wise that dialogue is absolutely clear. I owned a matching polk center and I didn't like how much of the sound it took form the 2 towers. If my speakers were further apart, a center would be much more important but in my app I do not need it.

Here's where I currently stand on the home-front.

“Is there anything I can use to separate the audio from an mp4 and save it as an mp3?”

MP4 is the most popular video format, while MP3 is probably the world most widely used audio format. But what if all you just need is the audio from a MP4 video? Like typical dialogues, special background music clips of a MP4 movie? Then extract MP3 from MP4 video on Mac.

Step 1. Free download and install Mac MP4 to MP3 Converter. And import MP4/MPEG files by clicking “Add Files”.

Step 2. Select MP3 as output format. Except MP3, there are many other video and audio formats you could choose. That means you can convert MP4/MPEG4 to MP3, AAC, AIFF, M4A, MOV, VOB, etc. on Mac OS X.

Step 3. Expand the "Output" panel. Use the "Browse" button to select an output directory.

Step 4. Click “Start” to split MP3 from MP4 on Mac. Before conversion, you could trim MP3 audio length by setting start time and end time in Trim window.

Done! Now you can enjoy fantastic MP3 audios from MP4/MPEG4 videos via your iPod, iPhone, mobile phones and other MP3 players.
