LOC with Remote Turn-On

Time after time of turning the car on leading to partial discharge of the battery. This partial discharging and then recharging when engine operates the alternator. This can lead to the memory effect, and just in general a loss of battery function due to higher extent of crystallization. I'm no EE, but I think it's pretty commonsensical to realize how it might kill the battery after time, so I don't know if your question was supposed to be rhetorical in a sarcastic sense or you really did not know what my question inferred. I know it is futile for a battery to eventually die, but I want to know if using a device such as this would decrease the life of the battery compared to having an aftermarket HU setup where there is a remote wire coming directly from the HU.

that PAC LOC will only tell the amp to turn on when there is a signal on the speaker wires - i.e. the head unit is on and playing. when the head unit is off, the LOC will turn the amps off. that's no different than aftermarket, other than a slight delay.

any other remote wire source will give you issues (unless it comes from the factory radio).

PAC makes nice stuff.

i'm not sure how you make the leap to thinking a LOC will shorten the life of your battery, unless you thought the LOC was always on?

You're biggest issue is the Honda ELD (electronic load detector). That little bugger will turn off the alternator while you are driving, meaning your amp will be running on battery only, shortening it's life and reducing voltage. The ELD monitors ignition system current and assumes that's the only load on the alternator. When ignition current is low (i.e. fans off, etc.) it turns off the alternator to increase fuel mileage.

I just happened to be shopping for the same thing. My question is when hooking up a subwoofer, there are two channels on the LOC. I will be wiring from my car's stock sub pos and negative wires with the LOC. What happens to the other channel? Do I need both left and right to be hooked up or just one?

I know, but I only have one channel for the sub. I am using the high level converter at the positive and negative speaker wire preamp. I don't have two subs, just one in the middle of the rear deck.

it doesn't matter how many subs you have or how many amp channels. what matters is that you want all low frequency content to be reproduced.

you want both left and right channels into the amp. the amp will internally sum the left and right into a single channel.

he is sayin that he is hookin the loc to his stock subs wires an not the rear speaker wires, you can prolly jus run both + on the loc to the + and both - on loc to your - wire, someone else might chime in, you might have to use your rear speakers an not your stock sub. I'm not sure on that....

ok, i get what you're saying. that makes sense - the factory sub only has one set of wires. you may still want to fill both left and right inputs on the amp.

you can combine the inputs as described above, or just use the Left inputs on the LOC and use a RCA Y-adapter to fill both amp inputs.

It would also be easy to add an equalizer to have individual rca inputs for all of the channels. A decent one can be had for less than $40...
