If you are familiar with Cadence, then you will know they have/had one of the best 8" subs for the money, on the current market.

I have been using these 8's (model # cvl8-500-4) for quite some time and have had excellent results with them. They have been klippel tested and modeled very well according to Audio_Phill. Recently Amazon has been having a good sale on them at $66 per sub

Amazon.com: Cadence Acoustics CVL8-500-4 8-Inch 4 Ohm 1000 Watt Subwoofer: Electronics

Knowing these subs were great drivers I purchased 10 more. Well about a week ago the first set arrived and low and behold they looked the exact same... BUT, I get to inspecting them more over and find that the motors on these sale subs are not even close in size. The bottom and top plate are within a 1/4" smaller than the older ones i have. The pole piece looks to be sleeved and the back plate is even milled for less steel. I will post pics.

Today I call Cadence Sound in Howell, NJ and speak to a technician who didnt really know what to say nor have the right answers. He puts me on hold, comes back to say they went through a different buildhouse and he "doesn't know what to tell me". I begin to tell him that since these motors are not the original CVL8-500-4 I had bought that it was fraudulent and wrong to try and pass them off as the same ones. The differences in motors would actually make these new ones weaker for what I am using them in. If it is sleeved pole saturation would be higher lowering QTS by dropping QES.

Regardless, with these new run of 8's from a different buildhouse the listed specs would not even be close to what is in these new ones compared to the Gen 1 8's.

I called back asked to speak to a supervisor, the tech had put me on hold again, then tells me they are looking into it and would have to get back to me. Then makes it a point to tell me on their website it says they reserve the right to not publish everything. I told him that is fraud and just wrong. They are not the model # cvl8-500-4 then and they are in fact a different model. I had bought 10 of these and they are bogus motors not what is being advertised. I was told I would be getting a phone call back and still nothing.

I figured this would be a good thing to make note since there are some 8" fanatics on here as well as Cadence fans. I think its absurd they would be ok with doing business this way as its false advertising.

I will be posting pics of the differences in motors once my camera is charged.

are these the ones with or without the spider hold down ring ?

They do reserve the right to make running changes to a product line but that would alter the t/s specs for sure. Claiming it to be the previous model is shady.

The older Gen 1 model is on the right in every pic New one from amazon is on the left. They are easy to tell apart as these new ones have a dark brown lead wire rather than silver

neither of mine have the hold down spider ring.

it will alter more than a lot. Everything Q factor wise and BL would be off. Posted specs are to be within a 29% of each driver. I have sent these newer ones for Klippel testing and will know by next week how altered they are

the right thing to do would be to have them re-tested and posted new specs. And labeling them as a V.2

I get the feeling they tried pulling one over the consumers in switching build-houses and lessing their products potential, hence the new cost factor.

Overall it is just wrong and not cool on a companies part. I am in the food industry and we dont give people what they order without stating its different material and may not taste as good as the older product.

i paid 75 per for my older gen1's the beginning of the month. Audio_phill has the same gen1 versions I have and I am sending him a newer 66$ one as well to inspect and test.
