2x 8" subs or 1 12"

I currently have 2x 8" JBL GTO804. Would it be better for me to get a single 12" sub? I have 500watts of RMS power at 4ohm that I can give the sub.

a 12" will be louder

normally 8" is to be different or if you have space constraints

i'd rather have one 12 than up to possibly three 8's, but its all personal preference and how unique you want to be.

I would say it depends more on a few things. What type of enclosure each setup would be in, power, and what exact subs your comparing.

1 12. on paper, they have very similiar spl numbers. to the ear, the 12 will be louder than 2 8's.
