Anyone got any suggestions?

I looking at the JBL p660c and the re audio xxx any others that can take that power at 2ohms.

Looking for some SQL type speakers.

Not too picky on sound but I want them to play loud enough that it can be heard clearly when my top is off the car.

aiming will have more to do with how loud they are than impedance. off-axis aiming can lower response by 6-10dB for upper mids and highs. going to 2 ohm only gains you 3dB (which is barely discernible). it takes 10dB to seem as half or twice as loud. further, a 4 ohm speaker with a 92dB sensitivity will be louder than a 2 ohm speaker with 88dB sensitivity.

instead of focusing on impedance only, look at sensitivity and adjust speaker aiming (as much as possible) to get them more on-axis. lastly, ensure the speakers are installed with the best seals possible to minimize cancellation.

Image Dynamics had some nice 2 ohm comps i've ran with success - huge magnets though. what do you have for depth?

Take a look at Massive Audio CK6 and RK6. Both are loud. The CK6 woofer is supposedly tighter sounding, while RK6 has more SPL potential. The later has big mounting depth. They 4-ohm I think. You amp should have no problems delivering power to them I think.

3-ways may work out best for SQL, specially if you get them with 6x9 or 8 inch woofers.

I have a 2010 vette and from what I have read its got about 3.5 to play with depth wise. can't really aim mids since there is no room for kicks. tweets I might have to do the a pillars so I can aim them

I'm only using a single 10 so itdoesnt have to keep up with 15's but it will have to play over open headers that's why im not too concerned with sq

This is going to make this a lot harder. Your engine and exhaust noise is going to drown out some of the music and it will vary depending on your speed and what gear you're in. Can you maintain a conversation with a passenger without shouting? I've done a system in a loud car but it wasn't "open headers" loud. When that car accelerated you can forget about the music because you're not going to pay attention to it one bit.

you can still talk and have a convo with windows up at cruising speeds. top off is a different story.

I guess either of these sets listed would do just fine right?

The JBL P660C has a sensitivity rated at 94 db (2.83V@1M). My Boston Pro's are rated at 91 db (2.83@1M). So, all else being equal, the JBL's will be the same volume, with half the power. I bought a set, recently. I plan to give them a test listen in the next month, or so.

Generally, higher impedance speakers are more efficient....but, that's NOT a hard and fast rule!

Your car has 10" woofers up front with 3.5" speakers covering the midrange on up. It would be absolutely pointless to drop down to a 6.5" woofer when you have those monsters from the factory. I didn't think of this earlier.

It also lowers the amps efficiency and raises the current draw.
