SQL setup, suggestions?
What I'm looking for is good SQ speakers (be it component's or coaxial's, I'm not sure which to get yet), and a loud, quick-hitting subwoofer (I listen to a good amount of metal, and my Kicker 12" CVR isn't cutting it anymore. It can't keep up with the quickhitting double base in a lot of songs.) Anyway, I have $350 (at the absolute max) to spend right now with another 400-500 coming in over the next monthish. What I was thinking of doing is purchasing an ID10" D4 v3(or D2 instead of D3? Not sure yet and some JL Audio TR 5x7 Coaxials, and using my current amp (Z-Edition 400.4) to push them temporarily while I'm waiting on money. As money comes in I was then gonna buy an Alpine MRP-M500 to push the subwoofer by itself and an Arc Audio FD2100 to power the speakers. For now, what do youguys think of that setup? Down the line I may get another sub, and depending how those 5x7's (or whatever I end up getting) are, I may pickup some rear fills (or components for the front and move the 5x7's to the back) just to get some noise in the back. Also what is the general consensus on the ID 10 v3's? Would an ID12 v3 keep up with all the quickdrumming in metal music? What I am NOT looking to do is lose SPL with the new setup. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant folks. All of your input is greatly appreciated. I'm looking to buy this stuff online ASAP. |

Now I don't want to close any doors by getting an amp that can only power one sub. I am gonna sell my Z-Edition amp and Kicker 12 in Craigslist, and some of that money will go towards the system. So when that sells it will give me another 150ish to use. |

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
Well, I think I'm gonna pick up an IDQ10v3, some components in the front (I'd like 6.5, but if I'm not mistaken 6.5's will be too big for my front doors (2000 Ford Ranger), they will hit the grill, no? That was my original choice, 6.5" comps in the front with some baffle for the extra depth.] I'm just concerned about losing SPL going from the Kicker to the IDQ10. Should I be? **** stereo shops around here suck, so I can't check anything good out. =\ Last edited by ImmortalFreak : 11-02-2009 at 07:02 PM. |

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
you wont have to worry about a loss in output if you go with the 12" idq rather than 10

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
The size of a subwoofer has nothing to do with it's ability to "keep up" with anything...

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
if you have 5x7s in your doors run 5 1/4 components just need a plate prob, you can get a two channel amp for them. mb quart has amps for good prices. |

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
Only the quality of the subwoofer determines how it keeps up with the music.

Re: SQL setup, suggestions?
Let me rephrase that. Can the IDQ12 effectively keep up? ![]() |
