MTX Thunder 8000 - Larger Volume Than Spec ?

Hey, I just get 2 12" MTX Thunder 8000 subs and I am building my own box and I was wondering if I should build it slightly larger than the spec sheet says ?

(obviously I would times the volume by two first because I have two of them) But after that should I add a little volume to the box ?

If so, approximatly how much ?

I am running them off of an MTX 2300x amp which puts out 893 rms.

They are in a Chrysler New Yorker ('88)

Could someone actually give me the dimentions of the box that they are using for their 12" MTX 8000s please ? (also the type of box)

That is a hard question to answer not knowing music type, and amp power. You might go a little larger for a little more low bass. On the other hand if you don't listen to a lot of rap/bass then go to spec for a tighter bass response. Or if you don't have a lot of power, a ported enclosure may be recommended, if it is suggested by the manufacturer.......... There are a few scenarios.

They DVC or SVC?(Dual 4ohm or 4 ohm? Not that it matters, just wondering)

I have seen 2 15" 8000's in a bandbass box that sounded tight but it was made to perfection - you are better off going with sealed or ported(vented).

With sealed you would want to go between 1.25 cft and 2.25 cft.

- vented between 2 cft and 4 cft...port diemsions ranging from 4"x11" - 4"x9.25", tuned @ 27-37 hz.

I would double the cubic feet measurments that you gave me because I have 2 of them correct ?

So it would be around 4-6 cubic feet ?

Thats 2-3 cft per sub I mean....put a divider(helps brace) in the middle of your box.

Oh well, Ill see what I can do.

Im still working on sealing the back up and making a plexiglass window for it.

I tried making the entire back plexi-glass but it wasnt very thick and the subs just shook the hell out of it hard core with only like 75 - 100 rms (while 3 of us were holding it)!

Yeah its definetly worth getting the thickest plexi possible...one 1 bandpass box I have now...the font plexi cover flexes and its screwed in really tight and its still 1/2"
