Sub Selection???

I need a little help. Mainly advantages and disadvantages to the following subs.

I was considering the MB QUART PWD304 or JL 12 W6v2 or JL 10W7 or Focal Utopia either the 11inch or 13. Which subs would you choose?? I have a JL 500/1 to power the sub. I am looking mainly for SQ but a little spl. I have Q series MB Quarts up front and Premium series in the back. The car is a 95 BMW M3. Alpine Head unit (new one blue lights). I also have 3 10W0's in a pre fab box in the back. They put out plenty of bass, they however are not clean enough and don't get down low enough (thats why i am looking at a larger sub). dont go with the 10w7...you said you wanted lower...that wont go lower for you...plus 500 watts on it isnt so great. I have a 12w7 and i think its great...I believe 500 watts to it would sound excellent. I was sending 600 and it sounded great. I havent heard any of the others

Thanks, I guess i could go with the 12W7, i have heard them and they seem to have a diffrent sound to them. Like they lack a little mid bass punch around the 60-80 hz range. Have you had that problem?

you want the best midbass speaker with great SQ in it as well and great SPL go with an IDMAX. they are 1/2 the price of a W7 and are better subs all around in my personal opinion. now you could also look into a brahma or RE XXX they both are better in SPL than both the W7 and IDMAX but also have that low end that your looking for. basically i think the W7 is a decent woofer.

I am not looking for spl at all really i want a sub that will faithfully reproduce the song how it was recorded. I want the flattest response curve. And a good solid low end as well. 25-30 hz (i have heard the 20hz is almost impossible to get in a car). Fell free to post any other subs you reccomend but for SQ not spl. Thanks.

I am only looking to run a 1 sub set-up. So i am not sure 1 shiva would work. can it handle 500rms i am not sure of the site. Also what about the Focal subs? I heard their mids and highs were great. Just wondering about their subs?? Dynaudio?? QUart?? JL?? thanks

I am currently running two on a 1000w crown amplifier in my home theater setup. Havn't had a problem in two years. Focals are fantastic and pricey. But hard to beat for SQ IMHO. I don't recall ever hearing dynaudio subs. MBquart are good subs for SQ. Tight clean bass. Good sound. I'm personally not a fan Of JL subs so I'll leave them alone. so you would say the focals have the best sq?? or the quarts? Any other brands that have good SQ are welcome and i will look at them. thanks

How do you like your Q series components?

I always hear that the Infinity Perfect's have great SQ.

Q series are great, i have them in the factory location and the off axis response is great. They are crisp and clear in the upper frequency. They lack a little mid bass 60-80hz but if you have a sub this means nothing. They are wonderfull. Some people think the tweet is harsh but it is great to my ears.

oh yeah i have not heard an equivilant kappa set. My friend had 4in coax but its not fair to compare to my componet set.

In the proper enclosure Focal subs ( preferably the Utopia's) are one of the best SQ subs around. Excellent subs in both build quality and sound quality. But as I stated earlier they are quite pricey. Where as the Quart's have nice SQ. They are excellent build quality. And perform very well in sealed enclosures. Personally speaking I would take the Quart's over the Focal's. This is MHO based on the price versus performance factor. In all honesty after hearing the two. I personally can not hear enough of a difference to warrant the extra cost of the Focal's. Don't get me wrong I can hear a difference in the performance of the Focals over the Quart's. But we're talking double almost triple the price for the Focal's Depending on the models chosen. So thats one vote for the quarts. The PWD series correct? And the JL W6v2?? Just wondering on the quality of those subs. Where is a good place to buy a Quart sub with warranty? Thanks.

i'd still recommend an IDMAX to you simply b/c they are great subs i'm not sure if as good of SQ as the mb's but they are great subs.
