Thoughts, ideas, reccomendations?

I haven't heard a lot of subs but maybe jl or kicker. the kickers can take a little more power and can be used in a much smaller enclosure if you don't have a lot of room. like i said, i don't know a lot about subs but i have heard these and like them.

Search the Classifieds for "bones22"s thread. He has a few. Also check out woofersetc.com and take a look at Image Dynamics "ID8" subs. Do you know the volume of the stock sub enclosure? I know my mom's Focus has an 8" sub but I thought some of the Explorers had 6.5" subs. Are you replacing the speakers/head unit too?

Does your stock amp also power all your speakers? Will you be able to replace just the sub amp?
Stock amp does not power the speakers I the only power at the moment is my 9887.

I got a good deal on a Crunch p900.4 from a seller here and will be using that to power the fronts and possibly the sub until I can upgrade to a better amp for the sub and one for the fronts.

If a 8w7 doesn't fit maybe consider a 8w3. They only need .30ft^3 and have a super shallow mounting depth. Only 4.63".

I've heard very good things about the 8W3 on various forums. I've also heard them with 150w rms and 250w rms in a ported box. They sounded amazing! They absolutely beat my JBL 1202Ds in .64 sealed. I also believe that you can find the 8W3 in your price range with a little bargain hunting. Maybe you can spot a pre-owned one and come in under budget.

I just ordered two of them for behind the seat in my Sport Trac. The 8W7 was 6.83" in depth and .875ft^3 of airspace each. I couldn't fit them.
