is that a stamped basket? looks like the mounting depth would be different with that basket

Not a stamped basket, its cast aluminum. Mounting depth shouldn't change more than a fraction of an inch.

Lots of speakers are made in China now. AudioFrog and SSA are a few but they are great subwoofers. I haven’t had problem with my SA12.
