Weird thing just happened on my way home

So I just got home from work. It's around 100 outside here in Denver. I have a black VW Jetta. I was slamming my brand spanking new system full tilt on the way home.

Suddenly I lost the base (single 12" Alpine). Oh crap did the amp overheat? WTF, but the other 4 channel amp is still working. About 20min later it came back on again.

Both amps are located in the trunk in the open well ventilated and not covered up or anything, just mounted on the floor.

I have a bass-knob that has an LED and I never saw it go off.

The system is brand new, like everything was installed 2 weeks ago. HU, 2 amps, 4 sets of comps front/rear, and sound deadening as well.

Any ideas what possibly happened? I will check all the wiring etc later after I have a beer, relax, after it cools down.

1- What type of amps?

2- 100 outside means.... “When temperatures outside range from 80 degrees to 100 degrees, the temperature inside a car parked in direct sunlight can quickly climb to between 130 to 172.” You then cranked the stereo for the drive home which generated even more heat sending it into thermal protection. That's a lot for any amp to handle imho.

Thermal shutdown....happened to me often back in the days when running one of those older RF amps with the black and grind finish at 2 ohms bridged with the volume all the way up for extended periods of time. What kind of amp are you running if you don't mind me asking?

Whenever I install a new amp I run it hard on hot days and feel it when I park to see where it's at. After a week or two I'm pretty confident it's safe and I haven't had a problem with heat since

Hmm ok thats what I figured it shutdown because the heat, I will have to be careful when its hot out. Also one of the speaker wires to the sub was a little bit shredded. So I re-stripped them.

The amps are Memphis VIV400.4 & Memphis SRX250.1 Sub is wired to 2 ohm.

It's all good now, today cooled down to 80 and went for a drive and never had any issues.

I must say the new system sounds outstanding. I have the Kenwood DDX9705s with the idatalink, and its pretty ******* using the digital gauges on the headunit, because my car never had them.

4 sets of components, yikes. How can your single 12 keep up with all that? Also just to let you know having speakers in the back is pointless....most of your sound comes from up front.

I doubt they're very efficient plus they're not getting 100-200w per mid like us crazy ***** do these days

4 pro audio 6.5's and 2 tweets is just right for balancing out a single 15 for me but i have 150w on each mid
