Hi Guys,

My name is Andrew, I'm 18, and I have been spending about the last year looking into enhancing the audio quality in my car. I have:

2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5t without a CD-changer.

I don't really know what configurations are good and I'm trying to keep a fairly low budget as I'm new to this. I also seem to have a problem with knowing the depth of my front, lower door speakers. Crutchfield, the site I have been mainly shopping around at says that the lower front door speaker depth allotted is 1.151" whereas websites like Pioneer and Kicker both say that the depth of all doors is ~3". Please let me know if anyone has more information about the door depth

The parts I have been looking at so far are as follows:

Speakers: 2 sets of Rockford Fosgate P16-S(With Tweeters)

https://www.crutchfield.com/S-IseyZTU0ZIo/p_575P16S/Rockford-Fosgate-P16-S.html

Sub: Rockford Fosgate Prime R1-2X9

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R12X10/Rockford-Fosgate-Prime-R1-2X10.html

Receiver: Pioneer MVH-200EX

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130200EX/Pioneer-MVH-200EX.html

Amp: Kenwood Excelon X501-2

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113X5011/Kenwood-Excelon-X501-1.html?tp=35834

Amp Wires: Rockford Fosgate RFK4

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFK4/Rockford-Fosgate-RFK4.html?tp=635

This brings the price to $836.92 on Crutchfield. Included are the following:

Speaker Wiring Harness

Scosche SAC-656 Multipurpose Speaker Mounting Brackets

Metra Female Quick Slides

Axxes XSVI-9003-NAV Interface Harness

Scosche VW2317AB Dash Kit

European Antenna Adapter

Volkswagen Jetta Installation Guide

I'm looking for any suggestions and comments, as I'm new, any criticism would be appreciated as I am not an expert and want my money to be well spent. Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

It's easy to remove the door panels on a modern car. They are held in by plastic pieces that snap into place, and typically you pull the panel up off the metal door frame after it's loose. You will have to do this in order to install your new speakers. If you want to know for sure what the mounting depth is for your door, you can remove the door panels and measure it directly. If Crutchfield thinks that an install is too difficult, they will simply tell you it's not possible. It could be that the other websites can get ~3" of mounting depth by making slight modifications or pushing something out of the way.

Don't forget that you will need some speaker wire to run from the amp to your new door speakers.

well right off the bat to save u few 4 on amp get jbl gtx 500 like $100 it tested way higher than rated power., u can even get pioneer 8601 that does over 800rms @1 ohm (so u can get different subs later and already have more power) it does 500rms @ 2ohms as well and u can get that on ebay amazon walmart $100 or so (guy here got one for $91 recently i think).. u can get better subs and box for like $300 so save $100 on amp and get as good or better amp and spend more on the subs..

I was thinking along these lines, too...you can get a Sundown E-series 12 which is also 500 watts and invest ~$100 in a real good enclosure that you could easily upgrade from.

Don't buy 2 sets of comps. Use the money to buy 1 better set like infinity kappa's. If you really want rear speakers just buy a pair of mids without tweeters.

Personally, I think you did an okay job with your selections. You are just getting into this hobby and you shouldn't be getting the best equipment right off the bat (what's the fun in that!). If you find yourself getting very "involved" with car audio, you will be constantly upgrading your equipment...that's just the way it is. So, you have your stock equipment in your Jetta and you are going to do your first upgrade. The equipment you chose will do just fine until you decide you want "better". You will find, after being into this hobby for a few years, that you will almost always want "better". Thus, the addiction has taken hold.

One thing you will want to do (maybe in one of your upgrade stages) will be to sound deaden your car, the doors at the least. Sound deadening will be one of the better upgrades you will do and will, also, be one of the less expensive upgrades, as well.

Your image doesn't really show anything. That could be 3 different head units for all we know, but I think it's 2 different add-ons. It sounds...

You can Email or Call GP Audio and they can make some adjustments to make the enclosure shorter and either deeper or longer on the Glue and screw...

Not at all, amplifiers have gain control to attenuate the output to safe levels.

I've moved this post to installations. Can't work out how to delete it here.
