can a 12 idmax take my x series 12?

So I did as much googling as I could and I cannot find out what size coil the v4 Idmax 12 has and if it has a shorting ring?

Right now I'm running a ported 12 NVX X series and it's beyond blown my expectations away. I can tell you reading reviews on the Idmax was like reading what I would say about this NVX X. Clean, Articulate, Crisp, Tight, Low,Extremely well transitions, Clean clean and more clean. It stays extremely flat even in peaky dub step songs and just sounds crazy good. So you might as, Ok what's the problem then sounds like your all set? well...........

First, I always wanted to try a Idmax

Second, I want this amazing sq I have now but more volume, more output, without having to buy more cone area.

I have to assume the Idmax would take it on output level but can it be as clean? I know I read a lot about its a pure sq sub but this NVX is so crazy refined its nuts. I know your probably thinking is this guy serious hes here talking about comparing a NVX X to a well accomplished for years and years Idmax............But this sub set the bar so high I'm concerned this would be for me an expensive test just to see if it can outperform the X. I also love that I can seal the Idmax and I have the perfect enclosure for that. So if it doesn't have a shorting ring and a smaller voice coil(I'm not sure of that;s the case) but if it is can I still expect improvement???

I love thought and opinions here doesn't matter if you love or hate either subs or companies I love getting others ideas before I make a purchase so thanks in advance //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif:)

It's definitely a beefier sub than what you have

ID Max

Depends a direct swap you probably won't notice much. The idmax would do great in a new box and with more power. The idmax prefers a larger box and will need it to take advantage of the extra excursion capabilities added power will also help. If you plan to compare the nvx ported vs the idmax sealed the nvx will be louder.

I forgot to add this nvx is listed as a 12 but its huge its a 13 inch sub easily. I can put the idmax in a sealed 1.7 and I have a kx1600.1 I can run on it

right now the NVX is ported tuned to 34hz and 1.7 cubic feet on a kx800.1 which it takes the power like a champ.

i had a 12" idmax v3 and now i have a 15" idmax v4. the sub is on a whole new level vs the nvx. More surface cone area on the idmax and more sensitivity. motor is much more powerful

I'm going to say the cone area is greater on the nvx believe it or not ill go measure it for you its bigger than you would think...... i know that doesn't mean anything but the cone is HUGE on the nvx x series. I saw your post there so you really love that sub huh? is it really that clean?

I'vs tried many subs in the past but nothing does everything well like the idmax. fast loud and low without being muddy. most subs are usually peaky or just plays very low with the fat bass tone and very hard to blend with the front stage. the idmax has a tall surround giving more surface

I think I emailed him. Btw I want your avatar speakers what are those? where can i get them lol also thanks for pictures awesome!!! here is a pic of it next to a vcw. The picture doesn't do the best job showcasing how much more cone area there is but...............

if you want more cone area get a bigger sub, there's a reason why enclosure size and port size can vary greatly between two similar subs though. cone area is only one part of the picture, excursion is a huge factor to consider

I forgot to add this nvx is listed as a 12 but its huge its a 13 inch sub easily. I can put the idmax in a sealed 1.7 and I have a kx1600.1 I can run on it

Like I said if your looking for more output your not going to get it If your putting the idmax in a sealed box compared to the nvx in a ported even with more power. Put the idmax in 2.25 after displacement tuned to 32 with moderate amounts of port dual 4 in aero or a single 6 in with the larger amp and you will notice a good bit more output.

dam if that's the case maybe I should just have a real nice custom ported made for the nvx since it sounds so good ported get it to an exact custom from something worked up by a program. Owners manual which has been revised like 3 times now says 1.85 cubes at 32 hz they started at 1.4 cubes at 34hz. Maybe I should do 2.0 @ 30hz idk how to use those programs to find out what is best enclosure but I'm assuming a little larger than now wont hurt sounds like that makes more sense rather than dropping another $400-450 on another sub just to try it sealed.
