Ohm Load affect SPL?

Hi, I have a SoundQubed HDC3.15 Dual 1 ohm. Which is capable of handling up to 2k rms. Anyways, I first had it broken in by a pioneer gmd8601 at 1 ohms giving it 800 rms. I then moved up to a hifonics bre1600 and wired it down to 2 ohms to be safe (at 1 ohm I was clipping, could smell sub coil burning) so essentially it got 1200 watts at 2 ohms and was quieter than the 800 by 1 ohm. What could be causing this and why?

The amp was clipping at 1 because you made it clip. Those BREs are not very good so I doubt you are getting more power than that pioneer.
Even at that though, I had my gain/bass boost all the way down and never turned my headunit above 3/4. Thats why I never understood how it clipped. But thank you.

How does it not effect SPL when it's cutting power? It won't effect clipping if it's set up right and voltage holds.
Yes it does affect the power the sub is receiving, but if you are trying to compete for numbers you wont be running a sub at 2 ohms since you want to pass as much power as possible.

Again ohm load does not affect spl directly, User setup will affect SPL & clipping.

Wow.

If it's dual 1 how were you running it at 1 ohm? You have the option of 2 ohms or .5. Unless you were just driving 1 coil which that pioneer could probably do. Curious how you might have had it set up. You may have had the pioneer at .5 ohm. The hifonics may not have liked 1/2 ohm. If you were running the hifonics on only 1 coil for 1 ohm load then?

you wired that pioneer to 0.5 ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif

Clipping can happen at any level man

Wire the bre to .5 ohm too man dont be scared grow a pair //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. JK if you dont have the electricals to support it, dont do it. If you do, go for it! i had my brx2400 to half ohm and it worked out fine for a few months. The BRE is a better amp then the brx

I ran both positives to positives and negatives to negatives, used all 4 speaker inputs. How would that drop down to .5?
