The Big Three Question

So I decided to finally do my first system install this year. I am planning on doing the big three upgrade but had a question about it. Is using 0 gauge for the big three upgrade and using 4 gauge for the amp power wire pointless? Just to clarify I am thinking about getting a negative battery terminal with 2 0 gauge slots for the grounds. Then get a positive battery terminal that has a 0 gauge (for the positive to the alternator) and 4 gauge slot for the amp in the back. Any help to maybe help me understand a little more is appreciated.

It's never pointless to use larger power wiring anywhere. And depending on how much power you're running and whether or not your 4 gauge is a) true 4 gauge and b) CCA or ofc, you could be fine with it.

As for your terminals, I would just get dual 1/0 terminals all the way around, because you can terminate 4 gauge in a 1/0 slot with no problem but you cannot upgrade to 1/0 and shove it into a 4 gauge hole.

Also, if you share what equipment you plan to you run, I can give you better advice. ;-)

Well for right now I will just be running 2 P2's at around 600 watts each. I do plan to upgrade in the very near future. So it would probably be beneficial to just do the big three with 0 and just use 4 gauge for the amp for now, correct? Oh and my 4 gauge is from Rockford.

Thanks for all the other replies guys, I appreciate it.

Use 0ga all around, even for the amp. It's better to have wire that's bigger than you need than wire that's too small.
