How many wire runs and number of RMS Watts you running?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how many runs of cable you guys run from up front to the trunk/back and back up front.

I want to get an idea of how many to run so voltage drop doesn't affect when you apply a large current to a single run of 1/0 to the back (talking about 250+ amp draw).

Also if you do more than one, could you list amp draw or RMS watts you running.

As of right now , 1 run of 4 gauge hooked to zero amps , 2 runs of 14 gauge speaker wire hooked to 0 speakers and a metra wiring harness hooked to a non-existent head unit. LOL. BTW , there is no voltage drop at all , its hard to drop below 0 volts. (battery is out too :p )

My entire system cost less than your dash kit BISH!!!

ill be running 2 runs of 2/0 to the back soon. gonna be running a d9 @ 2 ohms for now. eventually ill add a few more runs and run it at 1 ohm or .5 ohms daily. 1800wrms @ 2 ohms. 5400wrms @ .5

that does of course have a battery bank in the back

Lets say I was running 260 amps through a Kolossus Fleks Kable 1/0. Would the voltage drop be significant if i had a positive run from the front to the back and a negative run from the back to the front?

1/0 will not support 260A for the length of a vehicle.

The current draw should hit the rear battery first anyway. But your recharge rate will be limited to the amount of amperage your cable allows to get to the battery effectively.

What is the amount of current a 1/0 wire can supply over 15 ft?

Depends on the cable. TRUE AWG OFC 1/0 should support ~245A. But that will decrease significantly if it is slightly overloaded and saturated by heat.

There are charts for cable ratings and derating for distance/ambient temp. Google "AWG current rating chart" , that should get you in the right direction. Then you will be using facts and not opinions from people on a forum.

You need to calculate voltage drop. Try this site.

That page suggests 4 runs of 1/0 for a 1.8% drop in voltage @ 15ft length.

You must have missed something on the chart, i posted it again below. Pay close attention and read the information in the fourth line down, sixth column over. I stand by my post with the AWG Current Rating Chart to support it......... now prove your post.

Don't get me wrong, not wanting to argue, no point when the facts are plainly there to see. So maybe you should think about who is giving out misleading and incorrect information...............

I have 2 pioneer ts-e6995 800w speakers that I want to put in my car. I cannot afford any amps right now. My radio is a Kenwood - 50W x 4 MOSFET found here...

      Kenwood - 50W x 4 MOSFET Apple® iPod®-Ready In-Dash CD Deck - KDC-MP345U 1.

      1. Can I run these speakers on the radio without amps.

      2. Are there any dangers in doing this - like my radio getting fried.

3 What is the minimum wattage amps would you recommend for this setup. (I intend to put 2 small speakers in my front doors at a later date)

Whats up car audio.com. Im a newbie here and i had to set up an account so i could get this question answered so anyone feel free to add input.
First off heres my set up.
      4 alpine type x 12s
2 hifonic brutis 2600 amps they will be ran to produce 1ohm load. 2600 watt rms
1 hifonic zxi 800watt (for components)
      4 alpine type r 5x7s
      200 amp alternator
big 3 upgrade 0 gauge wire

i will be installing all of this in my 04 mercury grand marquis when i return from afghanistan in about 2 months. My question is though how many extra batteries will i need in my trunk in order to produce a power strong enough to push my system to the max. Also which batteries should i go with kinetic, optima, shruken or what please anyone feel free to post. And also one last question i also have a battery isolator but its only to connect one extra battery. How would i go about connecting the third battery please anyone help i want this system to bring it

I feel like a huge n00ber for asking, but it's been in the back of my head for awhile, cause I've never really been clarified on it.

Ok, let's say I have this Kicker zX1000.1 amp running 2 Diamond Audio DVC 12" subs they run 600/1200 max

so if I'm running them both bridged in Parallel how many watts is each actually getting, (the amp puts out ~1120 watts) disregard voltage drops, etc...

Are each subs getting the full 1120 watts, or does it disperse between both of them?

Seriously, I feel like such a noob now for asking that, though, but I'm trying to know exactly why things work the way they do with car audio.

I have 2 12' Pheonix Gold Radial SD competition subs. I need a 1000 watt + amp to push them. I recently bought a powerzone Crunch 1500.1 amp but am not sure if this will provide the good quality I am looking for. Also have had my eye on an O2/Q2 3000 watt amp but am not sure if this has good quality either.. also not sure if this will be too much to push these 2 12's. Not sure what the RMS rating is fo the subs but I was told I need a 1000 watt amp or better.
Also does anyone have any suggestions for a high quality amp that will push these subs and not blow a whole in my pocket...
      Thanks for your help
