I have a hifonics bxi1210d amp and it pushes 900w rms @ 2 ohm and 1200w rms @1ohm. I'm looking at getting an alpine type r 15 but need to know if i should get the dual 4 ohm model and run 900w to it or can the dual 2 ohm model handle 1200w? I've read on some other sites that they run 1100w to them no prob with out distorting

yeah run it at 1 ohm, that amp isn't putting out more than 900-1000rms at 1 ohm, better to have more power than less, just adjust the gains accordingly...
