This box is off to a slow start.... if you dont know what project Im talking about, here is a thread about it http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=282423

Got started on this box Friday, cutting all the panels, except the bracing. Spent a little time working on the dual flare, and just couldnt get it to work. I went back to the drawing board, and tonight, got the correct spacing on the kerfs. Hopefully Chris will be able to redesign the flares with the new info.

But here is a couple pics of what I have thus far.

This should be a pretty cool build in the end....

BTW, so far in the build, I have used nearly 4 FULL sheets of Trupan. This **** thing is going to be HEAVY. I have already collected some extra hands for the assembly. There is no way I would be able to do this on my own... LOL

Tuned way too high for what I'd consider musical, but it's a heck of a woodworking project //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Were the two kerfed pieces pictured for practice? I can't wait to see some more build pics, should be a pretty cool build.

jim, coming from you (being that you are a harcore SQ guy) i will take that with a grain of salt... but just out of curiousity... what makes you say that?

It is actually tuned lower than AQ suggests.

DJ said to do 40Hz

and its tuned to 38 (i think is what IONSQL worked out after bracing)

when i originally made the design in bb6p it tuned at 35.5, but went up a little after revisions to bracing.

That makes me say that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm not a big fan of ported subwoofer boxes in the first place, and anything over 32Hz is pretty much useless to me...too much attenuation in the lower octave, and too much peakiness in the passband. Heck, at 40Hz the midbasses should be still playing confidently...

lol... oh i see... your opinion is always welcome in any thread... even though sometime they only apply to you and like 15 other select few in the world...

im not sure a true sq build is even possible in a tahow anyway. it would take like 600 sq ft of second skin to even make it worth starting a build...

anyway thanks for the input

I drive something that has more sheet metal than a Tahoe, and there's a way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But it would involve either a center-console sub or 8's in the doors instead //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You will get a huge peak around 35-40 hz.

For automotive applications there is almost no way to achieve true "SQ" with a ported box unless you have tons of EQ. Even tuning "low" will give an unnatural peak near the tuning frequency while output below that is attenuated too quickly. Contrary to popular belief tuning lower won't really give better SQ. It just shifts the peak downward to lower frequencies. A sealed or 4th order bandpass will give the flattest and lowest response if designed correctly since the rolloff of a sealed box more closely complements the typical transfer function of a car.

im a drummer and put a transducer on the bottom side of my throne... i have always like my internal organs massaged with my tunes.

but still needs to sound good... i have pretty high expectations for this one.

In order to answer your question, I would need to know what model (e.g. SW4200, SW7524DVC). Also, are you looking to make a ported box or sealed?
