Greetings, in short, I want to replace the front stock speakers. Original budget around $150

I narrowed down to two: Infinity Kappa vs Pioneer REV, powered by HU

REV got lots of praises in the forum, the only concern I have is whether HU is enough to shine the 91dB speakers.

In another hand, Kappa is popular, some says harsh tweeter. Its 94dB sensitivity will help when powered by HU.

So, which one? any advices or suggestions are welcome.

The speaker will be powered by Kenwood KDC-MP532U HU, (MOSFET 22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels). no seperate amp.

The car is 96 grand marquis, 5x7/6x8 front, 6x9 rear I believe.

I did some research, candidates are listed below. Any advices are appreciated.

I do hear from couple guys recommending REV, how is their performance compared to Infinity ref or kappa?

BTW, shall I really confine myself in 6x8, how hard to fit 6.5 speakers?

Thanks for details.

Any competence Pioneer REV vs infinity.

Our LHS has a infinity system, I would like to know how REV sounds compared to Infinity.

It seem no local store carries pioneer REV series, so I will rely on the buddy feedbacks.

REVs. They sound very decent off HU power and even better when you install an amp (even a smallish 50W/ch) on down the road.

I was running a set of Pioneer 4 way 6x9's off HU power (22W rms/ch) for rears and they hit hard enough to feel a little bit in the chest....The REVs are better.

I had the Kappa's and some Diamond D372i's in my car. I wasn't very impressed with either of them. The best I have used for 5x7's are the Crystal's I'm running now. I haven't ran them off of deck power, but they are far louder and better sounding than the Kappa's were off of a small 35x4 amp.

Did you need an adapter for those?

I have a 98 Contour and the 5 1/4 in a 5x7 plate doesn't fit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Need an adapter for what? Both the Kappa's and the Diamond's were regular 5x7's, and fit right in the factory 6x8(5x7) holes. The Kappa's I had were actually a 5x7 component set, and the diamonds are a biampable coax. Both of them sounded decent at first but they didn't last very long. They were both kindof low quality IMO.

I'm getting ready to redo mine again, and build door pods for a good 6.5 mid bass, but the Crystals are the best 5x7 I have found.

Try removing all the signal from the amp, turn the gains up and down, see it is present. If it is, then the amp is the issue,if not, then it is...
