I disagree... I think lower-income people as a whole will be more likely to make large, unnecessary and foolish purchases with this money, and then go back to living their lives scraping by paycheck-to-paycheck. They'll just do it with a new iPhone, or a new amplifier and subs, or 20" rims or whatever.

In my personal experience, I agree. From economic perspective, they would pay off debt. I think many economists forget that people are irrational.

I would think that anyone with a lower income would hold onto it longer because marginally it's a larger percentage of their income. The stimulus is a lower percentage for higher income households, so generally it's seen as not a big deal, and are more likely to blow it.

That's how I see it, and I agree with what Flip said earlier about this exact thing.

Nobody is going to be using this money to pay off debt.

The average american has 10k in credit card debt + othe debts.

$300 - $600 aint going to make a dent.. And people know that... This money will 90% of the time be blown on frivolous crap..
