I’ve got a couple of old school Pheonix Gold Amps I purchased in the early 90s. They’ve been sitting in boxes literally for decades, I’m pulling them out for my 3rd gen Firebird build.

I noted the MPS-2240 appears to have some sort of a passive filter ? on the rca inputs, there is also another small board near the power supply.

This amp was purchased from a factory supported IASCA competitor, I don’t remember much of the details but I do recall being told not to load it down more than 2 ohm stereo.

'Depending on what year it is the owner's manual says it should be good to 1 ohm mono or 1/2 ohm stereo
Output Power per Channel at 1% THD (all channels driven)
Into 4 ohms @ 12.0 VDC ..................................24 watts x 2
Into 4 ohms @ 14.4 VDC ..................................35 watts x 2
Into 2 ohms @ 14.4 VDC ..................................60 watts x 2
Into 1 ohm @ 14.4 VDC ....................................93 watts x 2
Into 1/2 ohm @ 14.4 VDC .................................150 watts x 2*
Bridged into 4 ohms @ 14.4 VDC .....................125 watts x 1
Bridged into 2 ohms @ 14.4 VDC .....................185 watts x 1
Bridged into 1 ohm @ 14.4 VDC .......................300 watts x 1*

It is a passive attenuator
If you look really close there should be a resistor where the ground meets the board too
It done to combat high gain when there are differences in the sensitivity between the source unit and the amp
It not something you see much now but it was the 90's
That is a nice amp.
I had a M44 that eventually fried out on me and I think I still have an M50 somewhere in the basement

well they list that frequence response so I will try to use it. Also, does it help to have the marine speakers in their towers for such a thing...

Yep. It would be a little over 3 wired in series, but that’s fine.

Agreed. I was actually thinking of building a 3-way passive and I compared the cost to a Dayton DSP and it makes no sense to go passive.
