Technically it is/could be terrorism; using intimidation to accomplish political goals. It's unfortunate that politics have devolved to where people consider using threats & intimidation as an acceptable means to accomplish what they couldn't accomplish at the ballot box.
Everything that has followed Jan 6 has put things into perspective for me. These politicians frequently make policies that negatively impact millions of Americans to benefit themselves financially or politically, but we're expected to take it on the chin and deal with whatever they dish out. Then the ONE TIME those politicians actually feel the blowback from their actions in congress, they have to spend years and millions of taxpayer dollars punishing anyone who might have had any involvement.

They forget why they are called "Representatives" and only represent their own interests.

They don't bat an eye as they push people to their breaking points, yet somehow they're shocked and appalled when people finally snap. Hopefully Jan 6 will at least remind them that the bullshit they legislate impacts people, because "call your congressman" hasn't worked very well.

I think Jan 6th was made to be more "political" than it needed to be. People went to the Capitol Building to protest (to be heard peacefully with their words) and there were antagonist there. We know it doesn't take much to get a few stupid people to do stupid things before mob mentality kicks in. I don't think this was a coup I think this was trespassing and willful destruction of property at best. Nobody was taken hostage and nothing was overthrown. I know that when it comes to what a peaceful protest is the left has a different view (fires, destruction, vandalism, looting, personal injury, ****, murder) when it is what they are doing but if anyone other than the left does even one of those things then somehow they are insurrectionist. Hypocrisy and double standards all because people have different views and opinions.

Agreed. It would be nice to see some aggressive prosecution of the BLM rioters.

I disagree. They were protesting the election. The right had little to complain about as far the previous 4 years. The wall got started, border security was tightened, courts were stacked with a record # of (conservative) judges, Obamacare was rolled back, an exit date for Afghanistan, etc. Trump (and company) actually did a remarkable job living up to his promises.

The problem with American politics is the Rachel Maddows & Tucker Carlsons of the world get everybody all riled up & outraged over minor issues. For example, we had "patroits" threatening school board members over CRT. OTOH, I spent less than 1/2 hour explaining (my) reality my kiddos. No need to threaten people, get my blood pressure up, end up on FBI watch list, etc.

They weren't protesting the election, they were lashing out because they felt their voices were ignored.

I'm not familiar with Rachel Maddows. I agree Tucker Carlson preys on the emotions of less-intelligent people.

I haven't seen evidence of people threatening school boards. However, I HAVE seen video of concerned parents getting arrested for speaking out at school board meetings and of Merick Garland labeling concerned parents "domestic terrorists".

If you don’t think the attack on the Capitol on the very day, at the very time, that the Electoral vote that would oust Trump from office was to be cast was an attempted coup, what do you think the actual goal WAS?
Even a simple protest would show intention of something more, since the “protest” would be against the Constitutional right to vote and the election laws originally included in Article 1 of the COTUS.

I think you are the guy who has described the day as nothing more than people “waving flags and wearing hats”. The factual 910 (so far) people who have charges pressed against them should blow that theory into the water.
How can you still say that the events of that day and the motives behind them are “bullshlt”?
What REALLY happened, and what was the motive of the “peaceful protesters”?
I tell you what... when you are done being EMO about Jan 6th, go back and read what I said. I really don't like having to repeat myself or explain shit to people over and over. It explains my opinions of the entire situation. The goal was to protest, peacefully. (THEIR FUCKING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT), there were instigators there, (MOST LIKELY PLANTS FROM THE LEFT), mob mentality takes over. The events that followed were quite convenient for the left as well weren't they. Now they could say things like coup, insurrection, traitors, terrorist... and so on. This gains sympathy for Democrats doesn't it. The only people that stood anything to gain from Jan 6th.

You keep right on thinking that Jan 6th was some sort of conspiracy plot by half the voting country to overthrow the government and somehow reverse the election while storming the capitol building with banners, flags and hats. It's easy to accept what biased media, the far left and Democrats have told you to believe about Jan 6th because you want to believe them. You are no less biased then they are. If you weren't biased, you might be able to think rationally about Jan 6th. You might be able to ask questions like "why" or "is it even possible for them to take over anything" and so on. For you, it's easier to just chose a side... like I said, mob mentality.

Thus ends the diatribe.

I worked for DHS for a bit... despite rumors to the contrary the gov't isn't just inventing threats to go after people.

There have also been threats against election officials. I watched news article about how 2 officials (from GA iirc) actually went into hiding.

Ray Epps is another example of a person forced into hiding by extremist.

Ray Epps? Seriously? He is a whole new can ovlf worms that doj will not answer questions about.

I'm not sure why you don't think they were protesting the election. That's what their signs said. That's what they said they were there for. Were they chanting "Hang Mike Pence" because he didn't listen them or because he said he would certify the election?

Have you seen the full videos of his actions during the build up to the riots? You have to be careful about your sources - unfortunately you can't take anybody's word. Fortunately there is a lot of video, so we can see for ourselves what happened, but you have to find uneditted clips. Contrary to conspiracy theorist, Ray can be seen trying to prevent violence, not instigate it. Since there is no evidence the man did anything wrong, I'm not sure why DOJ would answer any questions about him or ask him any questions.

If an idiot tries to mug a police officer with a potato as his weapon, is it still an attempted mugging?
Did Bin Ladens crew not attempt to blow up the north World Trade Center tower in 1993?

Don’t play so friggin’ naive. Failure to achieve a goal does not negate the fact that an attempt was made.
FFS, Trump was probably rocking in his chair with glee at the possibility it might work for the three hours before he took any action to stop it.

You backed yourself into a corner trying to paint the insurrectionists in the same light as the founders of this country who broke away from what they felt was the tyrannical rule of the crown.
Complete fail.
I wasn't painting them in the same light just pointing out some hypocrisy on how people feel about insurrection....

I'm not the one being naive...there was a surprising lack of weaponry to support the intent of overthrowing the government...believing Jan 6 was more than a protest that devolved into riot is just a talking point...one you wholeheartedly belive since it's reaffirms your political idolatry....

Ray Epps did a lot more to instigate violence than many who were arrested and charged. Agree or disagree?

The problem with blaming the left for this, is the right has been so willing to continue down this rabbit hole. The stolen election has actually become the main plank of the GOP, so much so that otherwise " perfect" conservatives are losing to candidates who are willing to claim the election was stolen

Disagree. The videos I've seen show him trying to prevent violence. Tucker Carlson & Ted Cruz are not trustworthy sources and the main "pushers" of the Epps conspiracy theory. They've never recanted their positions, which leads me to believe it's a purposeful misinformation campaign on their part.
