Both sides accuse each of other of "perfecting it" and have for a long time...scrapping the electoral system will make a handful of coastal states basically decide the presidency (and steer policy)...leaving smaller populated states effectively without a voice in the election...we don't need more government that's the biggest problem right now...there's so many between elected and non-elected in the fed...nothing gets done...giving the presidency choice to the houses only increases their power and again separates the average system from a say in who's in charge...and we're not a democracy or have ever been...we're a representative republic...

I'm not saying bigger gov't, I'm saying more representation. Originally the USC stated 1 rep/30k population. We've scraped that any now have 1 rep/~700k population. The electoral system would not make a handful of coastal state decide the election; it would allow the people to decide the election. As it is now, we have ~10 "purple" states deciding the election and gerrymandered districts swinging congress in a direction not truly representative of the over population. If we're supposed to be a representative republic (which we are not), then why not strive for a republic that actually represents the people within it?

As for bigger gov't, I don't think it's coincidence that first world countries with socialized education and healthcare kick our ***** when it comes to education and healthcare despite the fact that we rank first in healthcare and higher education as a share of GDP. Of course if we don't start by fixing the fact our republic does not represent the people, then putting more power in their hands can only end badly for the general public.

A democracy is majority rules...where are the majority of people at?...about 40m in cali...20m in NY (8m in NYC alone)...4m in oregon...7m in WA state...7m in mass...12m in penn...9m in nj...NJ...

That's not all the coastal states but it's enough that will swing an election just in what I listed...that 99m people almost a third of the country (again that's not all the east coast either)...your telling me not only would politicians care about campaigning outside of the coastal state but that they would push policy (that either doesn't benefit those areas or has no effect on them) because a flyover state needs it...

The electoral college was designed so everybody had a chance at representation...pure democracy doesn't...

I'm not asking for pure democracy. I'm saying a representative republic that purposely distorts how we are represented is too easily corrupted. I thought we were done with some people are more equal than others.

It's really an easy fix...state by state take both parties involvement in how districts are drawn and the election process is ran...both the rnc and dnc are considered private corporations anyways...and there was a court case in 2017 that affirmed that...

Far from it. The supreme court deck is stacked with conservatives who make decisions based on what the moral minority tells them to do.
The same people who applaud this stacking are the ones complaining that Biden merely wants tos tack the deck of liberal judges.
Goose, meet gander.

The the Dems and GOP do the same things, but the GOP always seems to take it one, two, three steps further. It wasn't enough to have control of the SCOTUS, they wanted super majority so they could be guaranteed control of the SCOTUS for decades. Then when an abortion case came before the court, rather than just decide 6-3 on the case before them, they went ahead and decided this was an opportunity to retry Roe v Wade and vote 5-4 against that. Furthermore, then Justice Thomas went even a step further, said this opens the gates to reversing Gay Marriage, Criminalizing Gay *** and even gov't regulation of contraception.

The left just doesn't get it. Now they're pushing the "Trump called us Fascist" narrative. Of course Trump called the liberals fascist, we expect this sort of unhinged behavior from Trump. Justifying Biden's behavior with Trump's behavior is truly embarrassing.

I can see such apps gaining popularity in the US for ratting out homosexuals & women who get out of state abortions.

You mean like in Texas last year where they offered 10K to anyone who reported someone having an abortion?

Something like that. The problem with banning abortion is people will just hop the border. To truly ban abortion, they'll have to prosecute women when they return from their proceeedures. Also opens the window to rat on people who used mushrooms or marijuana in a state where it's legal.
