Where to buy 250+ Amp Alternators?

I have a 2000+ watt system soon to be installed in my Chevy Caprice. The alt is 140 amp but I know I will eventually need a new alt. Wheres some good places online/ or to call for a quality alternator? I'm looking into the 250+ Amperage rated alts. Thanks.

done right - 2kw should be fine with a 140A alt. Unless you have an absurd amount of other electronics.

Mr.Alternator: Uh..it depends. It depends what you're runnin'. If ya got a lot of things hooked up, you'll need more amps.

Me: ?????

Me: Nah, I mean how many rpms does my car have to be doing for the alternator to put out 180amps?

Mr.Alternator: Well..You'd have to be going down the road.

Me: ?????

Me: Sooooooo, it can put out 180amps no matter how many rpms?

Mr.Alternator: Well......

Me: So you don't know how many rpms I need to do to get the alternator to put out 180amps?

Mr.Alternator: That...That I couldn't tell ya buddy.

That's sad when people MAKE their product AND SELL their product, but don't know anything about THEIR product.

Either they're stupid, or he knew the answers but he knew I probably wouldn't like the answers.

Either way, I'm not spending a dime at Mr.Alternator...

LOL funny story man. That is really lame. I just ordered an alternator from a guy named Rob V.O. He seems really knowledgable on the subject. My alternator is going to be 200 amps (Hot rating). Without even asking he told me that it makes 172 amps at idle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif That sounds good to me!!

That DOES sound good. The best "at idle" output for a 200 amp alt I've heard yet.

Please do let me know how it goes. And I will definately consider getting one if all goes well with you.

Idle output wil vary according to cars, so it really won't be accurate for a company to tell you their alt can make so and so amps at idle.

But H-O Alternators want WAY too much for their alts IMO. The 200amp alt that fits my car from them is $500. That's crazy.

hmmm, you went through a dealer for HO alts, i presume and not direct prices?
