whats the difference? ( 2way/3way/4way speakers)?

Theres huge differences in them. Most just add more tweeters to the factor. 4 way being the best you've asked. Is there a huge tonal difference between a 3 and 4 way, sure is. Thats how I usually get people at Best Buy.....they ask about the 3 way pioneers and i say we got a 4 way for $10 more, then i turn 4 wyas on for them and they just smile, nod there head and then ask for the 4-ways.

Spoken like a true sales clerk, would you like fries with that sir, would you like to supersize that order. No offence dude but to sell car audio by "that's how I usually get people" doesn't do the customer any good and sure doesn't paint a good picture for yourself either.

The number of ways in a speaker does not necessarily mean that it will sound better by any means. There is a drastic difference in sound quality between speakers built to hit a price point and one that is built to sound good. One of the best type of speakers is a point source design where the tweeter is dead center with the woofer. There are many types of speakers like this and they all sound different but in pretty much all cases they will sound better than the 4 ways that BESTBUY GUY will try and get you with. (sorry dude but you opened the door).

A good 2/3/4 way speaker may be exactly what you are after, if they sound good to you and fit your budget so be it. Not everyone needs component speakers and their advantages they offer. That said though, the most important speakers you will replace are the front speakers, spend your dollars there, not in 4 way 6x9" 3,000,000 watt (insert brand that is lying through their teeth about power ratings here).

i got 6.5s all the way around... so in most cases a good 2way speaker is just a good as a moderate 3/4way?

example

CDT 6x slim series 2way

to the pioneer 4way @bestbuy, probly the blue coned one

IMO any more than a coax, is not necessary......and are unusually bright and unnatural- too many frequencies piled on top of each other

If you were talking separates, diff story....

Think of it this way. $150 2-way, you get two drivers for your money. $150 3-way, you get 3 drivers for your money. Sounds like you get a better deal on the 3-way, yeah? NO! You get 3 shitty drivers for your money rather than 2 decent drivers. No comparison in my book. A good set of coax 2-ways that are made with component drivers with the tweet suspended in the middle of the woofer will sound hugely better than any 3/4-way setup made. 3- and 4-way speakers are always a case of more is just more, not better. Look at a 3-way coax. Are there any filters that divide the frequencies between drivers? No. Look at a good 3-way component set. There is a nice 3-way outboard crossover to divide the frequencies up so each driver is playing in its comfortable range.
