They are talking heads and have been so for decades. When there were only 3 major networks, they all ran the same news and no one was all that worried about ratings. They tended to hold their core audience. And then 24/7 "news" channels started popping up...

CNN was the first 24/7 news back in the 80s. You probably had to have satellite to get it back then. Most over the air stations went off at midnight.

It really started to sprout up after columbine shootings. The news became a cash grab and a drama filled live movie. The OJ chase and trial was spectacular.

It's not my theory. it's the theory being pushed by all the Conservapubs complaining about the mass media, and how it is so liberal-tilted and mean to the Conservapubs.
