was happy with the CVR...for a while

Well I got a Kicker CVR 4 ohm dvc 12" in a 1.8cf box ported to 27mhz. Its being pushed with 420watts RMS @ 2ohms. For a while it slammed and sounded decent enough for me right now. In the last week it seems like everything I throw at it almost makes it pop. I have to tune down the gain alot to get none. A little less than halfway. The sub is rated at 400rms and I am definitely not giving it that since max I can give it is 420 and I've had the gains turned down. One single thing has changed. I had 2 amps with the same ground source and just recently I have them their own grounds which are better than before. My only thought is that my amp is grounded better now and giving more power, but how come its definitely not as loud as it was before putting out with no popping? Is the sub screwed or what? Its brand new along with the amp and everything else. Thanks.

check voltage at the amp when you are hammering it, make sure it has a good ground...a pop sounds like a ground or wiring issue..
