W7 special box?

Alright guys. My friend is adament about the W7 being the greatest sub on earth and I always try to sway him to branch out and see other things but he cant seem to do so. I know it is a great sub I am just trying to show him for the money he can get something that will satisfy his needs just as much if not more. Anyways he is fairly wealthy so he can afford the w7 his dad pretty much gives him anything if he *****es about it enough. He was telling me that the W7 needs a special box with like a dual layer of mdf on the front of it so it wont "break". I told him that I had never heard that before so I was just gonna ask you guys to see your opinions on that. He also thinks that sealed yields better sq than a ported enclosure. I have tried telling him that a properly built ported enclosure will sound just as good. Also he is adament about getting 2 8's because it will reproduce the best sq. I guess this is correct to a certain extent but cant you get the same sq with larger subs? Anyways sorry for my rant but he thinks, with his "extensive" knowledge, that he knows all. He is one of those guys you guys kind of despise on here that goes into your local tweeter store and buys his stuff their and believes everything the salesman tells him.

p.s.- I am trying to sway him from buying the W7 because I feel if he went with a xxx, brahma, or magnum in a PROPERLY sealed or ported enclosure that it will sound ten times better then his W7 with a Tweeter box. He can save with the online sub and splurge on a built to spec box.

From my personal experience sealed gives more SQ than ported, however there are exceptions. A ported enclosure tuned to a lower frequency would give a good mix of SQ and SPL. As for the W7 needing a special box, i've seen a 13W7 in a 3/4 inch thick particle board and didn't "break." The W7 is a great SQ sub, but the local shop with 13dub 7's sealed as their demo car is not much louder than my setup, and those are bigger subs(13 vs. 12). I've never seen a W7 setup that was extremely loud, but i've heard alot that sound really great. I'm a bass head and would never own an 8, but the 13W7 is a great sounding driver. I've never heard the 8, but I'm sure the 13 performs just as well SQ wise.

The advantage with going with the W7 is the warranty is usually a little more forgiving if you buy it at a shop(as opposed to an internet brand). Onetime I burnt up my subs voice coil(way too big of an amp) and the dealership fed the company that will remain nameless a bunch of crap and it ended up falling under the warranty somehow. I assume that wouldn't go over with RE, or another mainly internet dealer such as them. Thats y I ONLY buy from a dealer, the warranty's seem a little more forgiving, and if I'ma plop down that much money its worth it to pay extra to get that lenghty warranty.

he said he loved the warrenties because he could blow subs like crazy but i also told him that he should not be blowing subs left and right or else something is wrong. I know many factors go into a blown sub but he should not be going through many subs. I understand what your saying though

w7 does need an extra set of wood on box that surrounds the circle.

as stated before, w7 is a great woofer i'd say its in top 2 w/the w1 being 1 and 2 being whatever other woofer you choose, lol
