I have one attached to my 1992 Ford Taurus. Saw it for $20 on ebay and gave it a shot. The difference it made is somewhere between "what difference?" and "no difference at all.".

Wut about the Performance-Chip-Module-Mod

IIRC, the cheap ones do one of two things: advance the timing 100%, which I THINK causes the spark plug to fire twice in a single power stroke, or they tell the vehicle's onboard computer that the vehicle is under more weight than it really is.

You do not want to put your vehicle under either situation.

The expensive ($300) ones actually do realtime calc'ing, taking in your vehicles current abilities and adjusting the engine's pre-set settings to work in their favor. Of course, there's no saying your vehicle doesn't already do this, so take caution in buying any mod chip.

Adding 30hp is a significant increase and isn't going to be had cheaply. The simplest upgrade that will do any good at all is an intake. That will get you from 5-10 hp depending on the vehicle and will run you upwards of $150 usually more than $200.

I also believe a good set of headers and exaust of one of the best things to do. Simple to install (depending on vehicle) and not to bad on the wallet.
