Type R peps have a question.

No way a 1.4 cubic foot box ported will have no low end at all, and would just be a complete waste of your sub and time. Either get an 8" sub or go sealed if you only have that amount of space. A 1.4 sealed would be about perfect for the 12. I have my 12 type R in a 2.2ft ported to 32 hz box right now and i wish i would have went bigger than 2.2.

Well actually you never said what size the R would be, i assumed 12, but a 10 wouldnt do well in a 1.4 either. Sealed sound like your best bet, and it would have very very good sound quality with no group delay at all.

If you look at gain plots, and IIRC from designing my old type R box, to see a flat lowend (translates in-car to a LOUD lowend with cabin gain), it takes atleast around a 2cube box not counting the port. Any smaller box will drop off pretty good in the lowend if you try to tun it low (may translate to flat response in-car though). To get flat, you'd be forced to tune around 40or so, which, of course, would only be flat down to 40, the roll off steeply.

Edit: this assumes a 12", a 10" may work, never used one tho
