turned up head unit and now speakers distort on high notes

hmm. sounds like you have a 4 volt preout on the alpine hu and you have the gains set to the 1v input? sounds like the gain is all the way up if im reading it correctly.

I have seen vehicles with a "Demon" in the electrical system, wich is a crude way of putting that you can't or will have a very hard time finding your problem. Usually If the speakers make sound with his engine RPM increase theres a power wire cross at some point cuasing the interference.

sorry, forgot to say that engine wine is no longer a problem. All the speaker to amp wiring is correct. I regrounded amps so they are solid. Tested new rcas and tested new speakers. The new rcas still put out same distorting signal and new speakers still put out distorting high notes. I can turn the head unit up to about level 16 without distorting but it is no where as loud as it can go. So I'm thinking the head unit or the four channel amp is distorting, what could be the source of this problem?

already swapped and tested out new speakers, still distorts. I guess ill have to try another amp. But would could be possible problems with the amp?
