Tuning Alpine mrp-m350

I recently ordered a 12" type r (dvc 4+4ohm) and an Alpine mrp-m350 to power it. I have wired my car and everything is ready to be dropped in when it arrives this week. I have a couple of (very newbish) questions.

1. How exactly do I go about "tuning" the amp, as far as gains and boost and all of that goes.

Now for the really dumb one that I cant bear to ask someone in person.

2. What type of wire do I use from the amp to the sub...does it take RCA's or does it have regular "push type" speaker terminals? If so, what gauge wire should I use? I already know how to wire it up to a 2ohm load.
