An apparently angry ex-boyfriend has been arrested in England for mailing a woman a live, poisonous, 5-inch Mexican red-kneed tarantula.
The unidentified woman received the plastic box at a Fosse Park mall where she worked, and was horrified when she opened the box and saw the colorful hairy spider nestled on tissue paper, The Telegraph reported.
Luckily for her, as fearsome as the spider looks, it is mostly docile and did not attack, the report said.
Police summoned wildlife officials, who took the spider, an endangered species.
If threatened, the spiders can rub their back legs together and flick hairs that cause blindness or a painful rash to the victim. They can also bite, injecting venom through their fangs.
Leicestershire police said a 22-year-old man had been arrested and released on bail.
