How do I cut and paste selections on the Mac?
To move selections from place to place within documents or between applications, use the Cut, Copy, and Paste
commands. The Cut and Copy commands place your selection in a temporary storage area in memory called the Clipboard; the Paste command puts whatever is currently on the Clipboard into a document wherever the cursor is. The difference between Cut and Copy is that Copy puts a copy of the selection on the Clipboard, while Cut removes the selection from the document when puts it on the Clipboard. (To see the contents of the
Clipboard, choose Show Clipboard from the Edit menu in the Finder.
To Cut or Copy a selection to the Clipboard, do one of the following:
1. Select Cut or Copy from the Edit menu; or
2. Press cmd-X to Cut the selection or cmd-C to Copy it.
To Paste the contents of the Clipboard at the insertion point where the cursor is, do one of the following:
1. Select Paste from the Edit menu; or
2. Press cmd-V to Paste.
