T-Nut, Hurricane Nuts, Or Barbed Nuts

T nuts work well but are easy to break and break too easily. I wouldn't bother with barbed nut. Hurricane are prety uch the way to go. I need to order some myself in fact.
if you find a good place for them let me know. I dont feel like paying partsexpress 8 dollars shipping for 16 bolts/nuts

Should I look into #8, #10, or 1/4"

i'm gonna try hurricane nuts next time. Threaded inserts look too difficult to get right.

btw, I epoxy my T-nuts upside down instead of TRYING to get them into already glue-hardened MDF.

you need plywood... or you can do what some older speaker builders did and drill a hole a lil too big for them and epoxy them in place (facing the right direction)

can you get away with like 1/4" of plywood on the back of the front baffle or do you need plywood all the way through the baffle? Is it going to compromise a box that is 3/4" MDF all around and then has a 3/4" plywood front baffle?

I would wager that since they are made for MDF that they should hold better in that than anything else...
BTW, I think that they are made special for parts express cause I can't find anywhere else that has them.
Went to a local hardware store that tends to have everything, and a Ace Hardware. Couldnt find any hurrican or barbe. found Tnuts but no bolts I wanted, and they only had 6 tnuts

lol... oops... i wasn't thinking...
T-nuts (in my experience) need plywood... Hurricane nuts (from what i've heard) don't...

In any case I just bought a whole tube of liquid nails for $0.99

whatever I get will not move!

Do they work much better than a standard screw? What is the advantage?
the nuts? They hold on better, Allow you to remove the bolts easily. That way you can remove a driver and not mar up the wood . Nothing like taking out a subwoofer and having small bits of wood falling into your enclosure.

Also You can use security screws. It's really common for thieves to carry security hex bits, compounded security is always a plus. I plan on having at least 3 sirens in my car down the road. If anyone even dares to steal something from my they will lose the ability to hear well. One or two 130-150+dB siren in the trunk, 2 in the cabin, 1 under the hood. Mwuahahahah.

Most of my installs will use tnuts and security bolts. Why spend 3 grand on a system and then mount it with just drywall screws
