Oh come on... THis guy is a product of this country's doing who is corrupting and brainwashing our youth. Ignorant people in this country like him make millions of dollars everyday off of the backs of corrupt and greedy SOBs who are at the top..
And as a socialist and libertarian, I believe that economic regulation are necessary in order to reduce corruption, negligence, and a slew of other problems I attribute to free markets.
I believe that capitalism should be heavily regulated rather than abolished. I also support a mixed economy in order to ensure adequate labor standards and relations, as well as economic justice.
Problems I see with capitalism are seemingly unfair and inefficient distribution of wealth and power, a tendency toward market monopoly or oligopoly (and government by oligarchy), imperialism, various forms of economic exploitation, and shit such as social alienation, inequality, unemployment, and economic instability.
Capitalism also requires economic growth and will inevitably deplete the finite natural resources of the earth, and other resources utilized broadly.
The use of a labor force comprised of slaves, indentured servants, criminal convicts, political prisoners and/or other coerced persons is also compatible with capitalist relations.... One man gets millions and billions.... at the expense of thousands of laborers getting payed shit. Makes sense right?
To each their own.
Yes it does make sense. I am glad you recognize that what makes capitalism effecient is its exploitation of labor....But consider the alternatives. I have yet to see a sustainable libertarian / socialist program on a large scale. It doesn't work because of curruption.
Capitalism, on the other hand, does not reject corruption, but embraces it. Since people are naturally corrupt, ignorant, etc...why push against it...why not embrace it and use that what comes naturally to people. Anyone with a nickel's worth of knowledge knows unemployment is critical to capitalism works as a filter to depress wages.
How can you simultaneously be libertarian and socialist? I am may not be familiar with all the variations, but libertarian echews government controls and regulations whereas socialism embraces it. Again, my knowledge of political economy is limited, and therefore it could be one of those issues where theory is not practiced.
It is obviously true these stars are the success of misguided individuals. But does that make it wrong? Absolutely not!
I work quite dilligently in school, am pursuing advance degrees for essentially one purpose. I want to buy more shit. It's quite simple.
Because I want to buy more shit, I work hard (for the government) to add value to the American economy...why? So I can buy more shit.
If I was in an economic system where greed, power, amassing great wealth was not only discouraged, but frowned upon...why would I do any of these things? Why would I not be homeless, a beggar, or do just enough to survive.
Because Americans (and I think others, too a lesser degree) do not have this incentive to acquire more things, they lag...And only recently have they began to catch up with us in terms of technological advances, economic thought, financial transparency and engineering. It is because they have began to adopt these ideals of how to work with greed.
Here is an anology....Pretend you are on a boat and the wind is blowing. The wind is blowing the opposite direction you want to go. Your method requires one to fight the wind. My method simple says...perhaps you can adjust the sails, or change direction. Why fight the wind.
But somehow, under this libertarian/socialist hybrid, you are going to accomplish the following
1) Ensure people do not squander resources and spend their money wisely.
2) Eliminate social mobility based on the demands of the public.
