subwofer withot amp

hi

i am planing on geting the sony xplod 10" for my ford ranger. i just put a new sony cd player with pre amp out puts.is it possible to conectjust the sub without a amp for the time being and just connect t to my cd player.if so what will it sound like. thanks

i would avoid doing that at all costs, it has the potential to ruin both the sub and hu.

mad clipping + roasting hu.

 
I don't think I'd try it, but on at least some Pioneer HUs, the rear channels can be bridged for output to a sub. On the P760MP, the manual states it outputs 50w x2 @ 4ohm + 70w x1 @ 2ohm. I don't know about any other decks.

 
Its kind of like trying to tow a horse trailer with a Ford Festiva. It just doesn't have enough power. It will sound horrible without the amp. Put it in a nice corner in your closet and when you get the amp it will seem more sweet because you get to play with both toys for the first time.
